Procedures and Protocols to Mitigate the Risks

Arrival

  • Students will be taught physical distance procedures and where to line up
  • Markers will be available to indicate the area for each teacher
  • Students will wear face coverings as they arrive and wait to enter the building. Physical distancing will be practiced
  • Students will line up at designated areas around the building

               K – will line up along both walls

              1st – will line up in front of the school 

               2nd – will line up by the bus poles

               3rd – 5th – will line up outside their grade level door

  • Students will enter through their grade level door

Dismissal

  • Students will wear face coverings during dismissal 
  • Students will exit through their grade level door
  • Students will be taught dismissal procedures 
  • Bus designations will be spread out along the playground to allow for physical distancing
  • Walking/pick up students will be dismissed at 3:30pm
  • Physical distancing will be practiced

Classrooms

  • Unnecessary furniture will be removed
  • Physical distancing will be addressed by desks being separated and facing forward
  • Seating assignments will be established to allow for tracing
  • Teachers and students will wear face covering at all times
  • Students will sanitize their hands when entering the room
  • Rug/Carpet time will be less than 15 minutes
  • Water bottles are encouraged for each student
  • Drinking fountains are to refill bottles only
  • All interior doors will remain open but locked for safety measures

Hallways

  • Signage indicating walking path will be placed in all hallways
  • Physical distancing while in the hallways
  • Adults and students will wear face coverings 

Restrooms

  • Custodian will clean and restock restrooms before/after school and throughout the day
  • Students will be taught proper hand-washing expectations
  • Additional signage will be available 
  • Markers will be present to allow for physical distancing
  • Staggered schedules will be created for restroom breaks to limit the number of students at any given time

Lunchroom

  • Lunch schedules may be slightly adjusted to limit the number of students in the cafeteria
  • Classes will sit together with an established seating assignment to allow for tracing
  • Staggered times will be implemented to enter and exit the lunchroom to reduce congestion
  • Multiple garbage cans will be available to help with congestion
  • There will not be a self serve option
  • All kitchen staff will comply with health rules and regulation
  • Tables will be cleaned between each grade

Brain Boosters

  • Seating assignments will be established same as the classroom
  • Playworks will be held outside as weather permits
  • Library books will be checked out
  • Students will wear face coverings and use hand sanitizer 
  • Physical distancing will be addressed by desks/tables being separated and facing forward

Tier ll Support

  • Tier II will continue to operate 
  • Physical distancing will be addressed by desks being separated and facing forward
  • Seating assignments will be established
  • Instructional Assistants and students will wear face coverings
  • Designated learning space will be cleaned in between each group of students
  • Student groupings will be designed according to class

Recess

  • Physical distancing will be taught and discussed
  • Playground will be divided according to grade level to allow for physical distancing
  • Playground equipment such as balls, jump ropes etc will be cleaned regularly
  • Students will use hand sanitizer when reentering the classroom

Lunch Recess

  • Physical distancing will be taught and discussed
  • Playground equipment will be cleaned regularly
  • Students will use hand sanitizer when reentering the classroom
  • Maintain grade level staggering schedule to reduce large gatherings and congestion 

Special Education Services

  • Daily schedules will be created
  • Physical distancing will be addressed by desks being separated and facing forward
  • Seating assignments will be established
  • Teachers and students will wear face coverings
  • Students will use hand sanitizer when entering the room
  • Designated learning space will be cleaned in between each grouping

Computers, Chromebooks, & iPads

  • 1st-5th each student will have a device assigned to them
  • Each student will clean their device under the supervision of the teacher
  • Teacher and students will follow cleaning guidelines before/after the use of the computer lab
  • Seating assignments will be established in the computer lab

Large Gatherings: Assemblies, Back to School, etc.

  • There will be no assemblies scheduled at this time
  • Kindergarten Orientation will be held virtually 
  • Back to School Night will be held virtually 
    • Teachers will have 3 sessions to sign up for a preferred time
    • A video message will be sent to families prior to Back to School Night for school and community items

Volunteers

  • Teachers will schedule volunteers when appropriate
  • All volunteers will complete a health check and wear a face covering
  • Volunteers will log all activity to allow for tracing
  • Volunteers are for teacher support only

Special Programs

All special programs and after school classes will be put on hold at this time

Sensory Breaks

  • SEL staff will follow face covering and use physical distancing guidelines when providing support for students
  • Designated space will be cleaned between each student

Health Room

  • The health room will serve as the quarantine room to temporarily isolate students until a guardian can pick them up
  • All medication will be stored in an alternate location to ensure access if the health room is occupied
  • The back office room will be used as an alternate location for other injuries if the health room is occupied
  • Health room will be cleaned after every use

Check in & Check out

  • Parents will enter the main office and wait for the student to be called down
  • Parents will not be allowed to enter the school
  • All parents will wear a face covering and practice physical distancing

Transportation

  • Students will wear a face covering while on the bus
  • Students will practice physical distancing while at the bus stop
  • Students will be assigned a seat according to designated bus stop

Parent Health Check

  • Parents will need to check the temperature of each student before sending to school
  • Parent will send a face covering with each students
  • Follow the guidance of your family doctor if your student is experiencing any COVID19 symptoms 

Teacher/Staff Preparation

All staff with participate in Canyons School District training and safety expectation to mitigate risk

Entry/Exit Points

  • Point of entry and exit for all visitors/patrons/adults will be through the front office only
  • Signs will be posted indicating flow pattern of entry and exit to reduce congestion
  • High Touch Points (HTP) will be cleaned regularly throughout the day

Outside Food

Any outside food brought in to share with classmates must be individually wrapped (ie. twinkies, fruit snacks, granola bars)

PTA/SCC Meetings/Gatherings

All SCC and PTA meetings will be held virtually

Symptom Monitoring, Reporting, Quarantine

  • Granite Elementary will follow the district guidelines for symptom monitoring, reporting, and quarantine
  • Granite Elementary will work closely with our Responsive Service Department and our nurses to clearly communicate any pertinent information to the community
  • Every precaution will be taken to protect HIPAA of individuals testing positive of Covid 19
