US News Utah’s Top Ranked Elementary School Badge

Grizzly Growl: February 13, 2026

Dear Granite Families,
Please remember to sign up for parent teacher conferences. We always look forward to time spent with you celebrating and collaborating around your children. We respectfully ask that families with two households do their best to schedule a single conference. Thank you for your partnership in your students’ education.
As always, thank you for supporting our wonderful school community. Please reach out anytime with questions or feedback.
Warmly,
Elcena Saline

Thank You For Today

As a working mom with a working spouse, I understand the challenge of having school days off at random times. I want to thank you and share what today gave our teachers.
Today, our teachers spent some time talking about “thinking time” in the classroom. We looked at research, discussed and reflected on the impacts of providing more thinking time after asking a question, and “second thinking time” after a student response. This allows students to consider, elaborate on, reflect on, and expand their thinking. It also allows additional time for classmates to analyze the response and compare and contrast their own ideas.
We then continued our faculty book study of Engagement by Design by Fisher, Frey, et.al. and dove into the value of teacher clarity. We want students to always know what they are expected to learn, why they are learning it, and what their success looks like. This clarity promotes student engagement, ownership in learning, metacognition, and greater outcomes for all.
After time in their classrooms, teachers came back together to preview one of the newly adopted math curriculums for next year, so we can start eating that elephant one bite at a time now.
Our teachers are highly educated professionals and lifelong learners. Their dedication to making school as wonderful as possible for your students inspires me every day. Thank you for making these professional learning days work for your family.

Food Drive Results 🥫🏅

We are excited to announce that our food drive yielded 2,022 cans, or 1,568 pounds! We exceeded our goal by 722 cans! A huge thank you to student council, Miss Z, and all of you for making this donation happen.
We’ll find out soon which grade wins a popcorn and short movie party!

Reading Accuracy

Missing just a few words on a page can make a text hard for readers to comprehend. As your student reads, we want them to slow down a little and pay attention to accuracy. You can help by:
  • listening to your student read for a few minutes and correct any errors.
  • make a silly noise anytime your student reads incorrectly and have them start at the beginning of the sentence
  • Ask your child to pause and think about whether a sentence makes sense; prompt them to reread if something sounds off.
  • Try Dyad Reading with your student. Check out this video on how to do that.
