Granite Groove – Let’s resolve to age with strength! No matter what your age, we are ALL aging. With age, comes age-related muscle loss. To counter this loss, it is critical to get enough protein in your diet as protein keeps muscles strong (and will also help with balance, staying off certain chronic illnesses, inflammation and will help keep skin younger looking). Be sure to get a mixture of plant and animal sources, such as beans, nuts, soy products, lean meats, fish and dairy. If you are vegan, you can easily get enough protein from plant-based foods. Top plant-based protein foods contain: tempeh, tofu, edamame, lentils, almonds, chickpeas, quinoa, peanut butter, and oatmeal. It is also important to get some protein beginning at breakfast and throughout the day. Here’s to younger, stronger bodies!
The 2020-21 school year started off with anticipation, excitement, uncertainty, and apprehension. Those feelings and more have continued throughout the first few months of school. Students have adjusted to the new “normal” of the school year. In addition, many students have experienced times of quarantine either for themselves or for the entire school. As we continue the school year with further prospects of possible quarantines, check out our website, granite.canyonsdistrict.org for more information that can guide you in helping your student academically, socially, and emotionally in times of quarantine and re-entry to school.
We have added a Principal’s Corner link to our website. On this link you will find Principal’s News, Granite Covid Mitigation Plan, articles for Social Emotional Learning, and general communication pertinent to the Granite Community. You will receive communication from the school in different ways. You will often receive a hard copy sent home with your student, an email, a Skylert phone message, and information posted to our website. Classroom teachers are building communication on their Canvas page for information specific to the classroom. Please make sure we have your accurate contact information to be able to effectively communicate with you.
Canyons District website, canyonsdistrict.org, has a great section dedicated for common questions, information regarding health and wellness and Covid-19. Click on the purple bar for resources and updates.
Granite Elementary is dedicated to enriching and supporting students social emotional learning. We continue to hold monthly Second Step lessons taught by Mrs. Stolfa, to explore skills for learning, empathy, emotional management, problem solving, and friendship skills. We also have a full-time psychologist and part time social worker ready to address any individual or small group need.
As we near the end of 2020, we want to wish you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season
