The whole school recently took a field trip to the historic Granite church across the street from Granite Elementary. The church is owned by a family of artists. Avard Fairbanks was a sculptor and son of an artist. Avard’s son and grandson followed suit and became artists as well. Students were able to learn about some architecture of the church and of large sculptures found inside the church used as a type of Fairbanks family gallery. They were able to see several types of artwork including the church, paintings, models, and a variety of scultures.
After the field trip, students were able to learn about drawing and painting the historic church from our awesome art teacher Mrs. Carr. A big thanks to Mrs. Carr and the Fairbanks family for setting up the field trip and teaching us.
