School News
Dear Granite Families,
We’ve just wrapped up our second week of school, and it’s been wonderful to see our students settling into routines, making new friends, and diving into learning. Classrooms are full of energy, curiosity, and joy, and we’re already seeing so much growth in just a short time.
Thank you for helping us to promote student attendance. We met our goal of 93% present 8 of 10 days so far! Learning is a “must be present to win” activity. Thank you and please continue to support your students’ regular attendance.
As always, thank you for supporting our wonderful school community. Please reach out anytime with questions or feedback.
Warmly,
Elcena Saline
Drop-off & Pick-up Lane
Parents, it is our goal to help you drop-off and pick-up your child as easily as possible.
- If you need to get out of the car (to walk your child in, help with backpacks, buckle seatbelts, etc.), please use a parking space.
- The drop-off lane is for quick hellos and goodbyes only—drivers should remain in their vehicles.
This helps keep the line moving smoothly and ensures a safe, stress-free process for all of our students. Thank you for your cooperation!
Safety Info
This week we practiced two safety routines with students. Please ask your child to explain what to do in each situation:
- Fire Drill – On Monday we had our first fire drill. Students leave belongings, exit through the nearest door, and meet their teacher on the north lawn for attendance.
- Move Inside – On Thursday we practiced coming inside quickly for things like animals, weather, or other concerns. When students hear 3 short whistles, they go inside right away without lining up or cleaning up equipment.
Thank you for reviewing these routines at home to help keep everyone safe.
New Device Policy
In the last Utah legislative session, personal student devices in classroom were a big discussion. Following new state regulations, CSD updated our student personal device policy, which can be found here: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/policies/student/expectations-protections/500-6/
Our district elementary policy requires a bell-to-bell ban on personal student devices (including cellphones, smartwatches, emerging technology). All student devices must be powered off or set to silent and stored out of sight from the start of the school day until dismissal. We will allow students to wear watches that are silenced, set to school mode, and not used as communication tools.
Devices may not be used during lunch, recess, or transitions between classes, unless allowed by a teacher for a direct educational purpose.
We recognize that parents may need to get in touch with their students. Please feel free to call our office and we will be happy to relay important messages to your student.
