In a 4th grade class, they read a different read aloud book every month. The read aloud for October was Holes by Louis Sachar. Throughout the month they read and practice a different comprehension skill. Once they finish a book, they take a few days to apply what they’ve learned and students create a book project. For Holes, kids made dioramas of one of their favorite scenes from the book. The outside of the box included a summary written by students, as well as a short explanation of the characters and setting. Lastly, kids also wrote about 2 lessons that can be learned from the book. The inside of the box depicted a scene of the student’s choice that they created using cardboard and construction paper. Some kids used clay or even Lego people to enhance their scenes!
