US News Utah’s Top Ranked Elementary School Badge

Grizzly Growl: August 23, 2024

Dear Granite Families,

It is so good to have your students back in the building. We love hearing kids learn, seeing them interact with each other, working with our buddies, and getting to know their teachers. We have had a successful first week and I know your students are as ready as teachers are for a weekend rest.

Communication Reminders: Our teachers work very hard to be available and communicate regularly with you. During the day, however, they are prioritizing instruction and student safety. It is possible that they won’t see messages or communication until after school. Please communicate all information about absences, afternoon transportation changes, check out times, etc. with our main office. Our amazing office assistants are equipped to manage all of that information to support family communication. As a reminder, students are not allowed to use devises like cell phones and smart watches during the school day. Again, please communicate directly with our main office to get messages to your child.

HELP US FIGHT FOOD WASTE: Join us in our mission to lower food waste in Canyons School District. In this video, we delve into the importance of making informed choices during school lunch. Learn about the required food groups, discover how to create a balanced meal, and take a quick quiz to test your knowledge. Let’s work together to ensure nutritious meals for all students while minimizing food waste.

Join SCC Serving on a School Community Council (SCC) is a wonderful way for parents to be actively involved in their children’s education. In the Canyons School District, School Community Council members review school data, identify school needs, establish school goals, and allocate funds toward accomplishing those goals.  Every year, each School Community Council creates school plans and reviews district plans with the overarching goal of addressing their school’s greatest academic needs and creating a safe learning environment. The Granite Elementary SCC can up to 20 total SCC members (17 parents/3 staff members). Time commitment includes meetings once a month except in June and July. The meetings are usually held at 4:15pm on the second Monday. SCC members must commit to attend a minimum of 70% of the scheduled SCC meeting during the school year. Applications are due by September 5th.

PTA Information

Message From PTA President Bridget Smith:

Thank you to all the parents who stopped by on the first day of school to say hi and to grab a doughnut and a drink! And an extra big thank you to all of you who have joined the PTA and signed up for volunteer opportunities this year! We hope this first week of school has been great!

Help needed:We are still in need of filling our President elect position on the general board for PTA. If you are considering this, right now is the best time to join us! You’ll have all year to learn the ropes and we will make sure you are set up to succeed in the future!
Meeting Times: We will be meeting as a board on the first Wednesday of the month starting on Sept 4 at 10:00 am at the school. This will be our first general meeting and we will be voting in our proposed budget. A copy of the budget will be emailed out to all PTA members through our website at Granite.givebacks.com next week.

Spirit Wear for Every Student:If you haven’t seen it yet, check your students’ folders. A paper should be coming home about spirit wear for the student body this year. The PTA is purchasing a T-shirt for every student and we need to collect sizes. Please be sure to fill out that paper and send it back to school by Wed, Aug 28!

It’s still not too late to join the PTA! Please visit Granite.givebacks.com/store to renew your membership for this school year. Every family who joins the PTA will receive a school directory as well as be entered into a drawing to win a family day at UpTown Jungle.

Thank you for all your support!!
