Reading Accuracy Matters 📖💯 | One of our goals this year at Granite is that all students will improve their oral reading accuracy. Accuracy helps children understand text more clearly and build confidence as readers. When readers focus on precise word recognition and self-correction, comprehension improves and learning becomes smoother. How you can help at home:- Read together daily when possible and model sounding out unfamiliar words.
- When your child reads aloud, point out accuracy errors like dropping an ending, misreading small words, skipping small words, etc. and have them try the sentence again. Changing a small word such as in, to on, can make a difference in comprehension.
- Encourage slow, careful reading rather than rushing through the text.
- Ask your child to pause and think about whether a sentence makes sense; prompt them to reread if something sounds off.
- Keep a positive, patient tone—praise effort and progress.
