US News Utah’s Top Ranked Elementary School Badge

Grizzly Growl: October 18, 2024

Dear Granite Families,

What a great first quarter we’ve had with your students. Next Friday is the last day of quarter 1, and teachers will be spending the day Monday working on data analysis and planning. We look forward to seeing your students again Tuesday.

As a reminder, we send home report cards after quarters 2 and 4. We hold parent teacher conferences during quarters 1 and 3, so you will not get another report next week.

Digital Citizenship Week

Each student this week (or early next week) will participate in the Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship lessons correlated to, “Respecting Myself and Others.” Please look for information from your students’ teachers with more details about grade lesson content.

It’s important to talk to students about how to interact with others online with messaging, texting, gaming, social media, etc. and help them to understand WHO they are communicating with in their various online communities. Check out parent resources, games, and activities on Common Sense Media.

Introducing Makerspace at Granite!

Our amazing Mrs. Gardener, our STEM teacher, is hosting a makerspace at Granite each Friday during lunch recess! A Makerspace is a creative, hands-on learning environment where students can explore, design, and build using a variety of tools and materials. It encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration by allowing students to engage in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) projects. We offer a range of learning materials for K-5 students such as Blue-Bots, Code and Go Mouse, Dash Robots, Strawbees, Micro:Bits, Legos, littleBits, Intelino Trains, and more, providing endless opportunities for exploration and creativity.

Each Friday from Oct. 25 through Apr. 4, students will be able to go to the STEM room during lunch recess and explore, design, and build. Please talk to your student about this amazing opportunity. In a few weeks, we’ll be sharing information about STEAM Squad, which we will host after school on Fridays for 8 weeks.

Reflections Reminder

Fall break is a perfect time for an art, music, or film project that students can submit to PTA’s Reflections competition. The class with the most submissions will win an ice cream party! We look forward to seeing what your wonderful students create.
