Winter is here!  Stay healthy and fit!

1.  Make sure to get outsidewe need catch up on some Vitamin D.  Hiking poles will help with balance and increase arm strength.

2. Look for opportunities to be active such as catching up with a friend by walking and talking.  Park some ways from stores and businesses to increase your walking time and distance.

3. Set a family health and exercise competition with a reward at the end

Theres plenty to do in winter.  Try a new sport: snowshoeing, skate skiing, skiing, cross country.  Take the kids sledding.  Ultimately, have some fun!

Talk about the risks associated with meeting online “friends” in person

Adults should understand that the Internet could be a positive meeting place for children, where they can get to know other young people and make new friends. However, for safety and to avoid unpleasant experiences, it is important that children do not meet strangers they have met online without being accompanied by an adult, friends or others they trust. In any case, the child should always have their parents’ approval first.

Teach your child about evaluating information and being critically aware of information found online.

Most children use the Internet to improve and develop knowledge in relation to schoolwork and personal interests. Children should be aware that not all information found online is correct, accurate or relevant. Educate children on how to verify information they find by comparing to alternative sources on the same topic. Show them trusted sites they can use to compare information.

March 2017 – Principal’s News

This week Granite Elementary will participate in White Ribbon Week. Monday we had a kick off assembly with the Utah Grizzlies. We discussed setting goals, believing in yourself, showing kindness, and teamwork. We will connect this great message to White Ribbon Week on how to make wise choices on social media and how to use social media to make a positive difference. On Tuesday, March 7th Granite will host a social media conference for parents. Debbie Dujanovic and a retired FBI Cyber Crimes supervision, Petra Butler, will discuss the realities of internet safety. Join us at 6:30pm in the gym for this raw and honest discussion on how to implement internet safety in your home.

With just one look outside we see a glimpse of spring. Sun is shining. Snow is falling. Please continue to help your students dress for the weather. A little sunshine and vitamin D is good for all of us. If the temperature drops below 21 we will keep them inside. We continue to monitor the air quality. If we experience a RED day, all students will remain inside. If we have an orange day students with asthma and sensitive issues will remain inside.

If you know of any incoming Kindergarteners for the 2017-2018 school year, please have them call the office to register.

We are proud to announce that Granite Elementary raised $4242.42 for our sister school, Magale Primary School, in Kenya. Way to go Granite Grizzlies!
